The Campbellsville Eagles saw their season come to a close Monday night with a 60-49 loss to the Taylor County Cardinals in the opening round of the 20th District Tournament.
Campbellsville battled throughout the night but struggled to find consistency offensively, shooting 37.2 percent from the field and connecting on four three-pointers. Despite the loss, the Eagles showed resilience, staying within striking distance into the final minutes.
Senior Jalen Gribbins led the way with a game-high 20 points, scoring from all three levels and going 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. Fellow senior Keaton Hord added 11 points, while Ty Milburn contributed seven points and five rebounds off the bench.
Griffin Howard provided a spark from beyond the arc, knocking down two three-pointers on his way to six points. Cole Kessler finished with four points on efficient shooting, while freshman Ty Burwash added a point at the free-throw line.
The Eagles finished the night 13-of-19 from the charity stripe and pulled down 22 rebounds, led by Milburn’s five and Gribbins’ four. However, Taylor County capitalized on key possessions down the stretch to seal the win and advance.
The loss marks the end of the road for a Campbellsville team led by a strong senior class, as Gribbins, Hord, and Adrian Lanham wrap up their high school careers. Despite the early tournament exit, the Eagles gained valuable experience and growth that will serve the program well moving forward.
