The Campbellsville Lady Eagles opened postseason play with a strong performance, defeating the Green County Lady Dragons 63-52 in the opening round of the KHSAA Fifth Region Girls Basketball Tournament.
Campbellsville used balanced scoring, strong rebounding, and clutch perimeter shooting to control the game and secure a spot in the regional semifinals.
Senior Alexis Knifley led the way offensively for the Lady Eagles, finishing with 25 points. Knifley was particularly dangerous from beyond the arc, knocking down six three-pointers and stretching the Green County defense throughout the night.
Sophomore Karsyn Smith delivered a big performance as well, scoring 22 points while going a perfect 10-for-10 at the free-throw line. Smith’s ability to attack the basket and convert at the line helped Campbellsville maintain control during key stretches of the game.
Campbellsville also received contributions across the lineup. Symone Headspeth added 4 points and dominated the boards with a team-high 15 rebounds, helping the Lady Eagles win the battle inside. Londyn Smith, Ammarissa Nunez, Justice Lane, and Amiiyah Nunez each chipped in three points, providing valuable support scoring.
As a team, Campbellsville connected on 9 three-pointers and shot 37.5 percent from long range, while also converting 14 of 16 free throws for an impressive 87.5 percent at the line. The Lady Eagles also controlled the glass with 46 total rebounds, limiting second-chance opportunities for the Lady Dragons.
With the victory, Campbellsville advances to the semifinals where they will face the Bethlehem Lady Banshees tonight in regional tournament action.
Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. Eastern Time as the Lady Eagles continue their pursuit of a Fifth Region championship.
