CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – What are you striving after? What do you desire more than anything? School, work, money?
What we Christians should be striving after is God, explained Campbellsville University alum Dr. Jamie Ward as he spoke at CU’s chapel recently.
In his sermon, Ward laid out the reasons followers of Christ should prioritize Him above anything else.
He began by recognizing people should be hungry for God is because Christianity is more than just another religion. Ward shared there is Someone named Jesus, who loves and died for all people.
“Christianity is a thinking faith. It does center around the person of Jesus Christ,” Ward shared.
“Not only is there a God,” Ward proclaimed, but “Jesus is God,” and everything and everyone we see “were created by God and for God.”
In addition, Ward told students, the key part to being hungry for Christ was having a relationship with Him, by accepting Jesus’ payment on the Cross and the fact He rose from the dead three days later.
“He is the image of the invisible God,” Ward noted.
Once someone accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior, a person can begin growing in their walk with Christ, as Christ continues to purify and sanctify them, something Ward says he knows all too well.
“Jesus did for me what I couldn’t even do for myself because He loves us,” Ward confessed. “God redeems all things. He can take the most horrible, difficult moments of our life and bring from those moments the most beautiful things.”
Lastly, Ward closed his sermon with a question, asking those at chapel what they were hungry for.
Ward used an example of going to the gym and working out to make his point clearer.
He said, “If I only went to the gym when I felt like it, I’d be there two or three times a year. Seeking God is the same way. You have to pursue Him even when you don’t feel like it.”
He closed with a prayer asking God to make everyone more passionate and hungrier for the One who died for us.
