Gary L. Morgan, 68, of Louisville, formerly of Green County, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Buford Morgan.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa; his two sons, Jameson (Courtney) and Jordan (Annie); and two grandchildren, Maeve Catherine and Rosalyn Josephine Delacroix. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Donna Means; brother-in-law, Joe Means; his niece, Anne Means Carlsson; and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Gary was a quick-witted, larger-than-life person who loved telling stories, tall tales, and jokes. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. Gary was involved in his community and a member of several organizations that were always focused on service to others. He was a hard worker and generous in all facets of life.
He was born in Louisville, KY, on September 12, 1956, and was adopted by the late Buford Morgan. After graduating from Green County High School, he enlisted in the Army in 1975, serving in the 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam War. He was exceptionally proud of his service to the United States, though he seldom spoke about his experiences.
Later in life, after starting a family, he returned to education and graduated from Spalding University in Louisville, KY.
Gary met the love of his life, Teresa Morgan, while working as a paramedic for Louisville EMS. He also worked as the former manager of the Green County Ambulance Service. Later, he became a flight paramedic, where he and Teresa worked together for Skycare. They quickly fell in love and spent 39 wonderful years of marriage together. They enjoyed spending time with family, friends, children, and grandchildren. Gary and Teresa were members of St. Matthews Baptist Church, where they dutifully worshiped God in fellowship with their church community.
He loved being involved in his children’s lives and coached them in many different sports, winning championships and teaching valuable life lessons. Many people in Oldham County still called Gary “Coach” over 30 years later, which meant the world to him. He never missed a sporting event his boys played in and never missed a single life milestone. He was always present and always told his sons he loved them and was proud of them.
Gary dedicated nearly 30 years to the Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA), where he played a vital role in coordinating transplants for numerous individuals in need of life-saving organs. His efforts made a meaningful difference in the lives of many families, allowing them precious time together. Gary was passionate about training KODA staff, and his legacy will endure long after his tenure.
Gary was a dedicated Freemason. He was initiated as an Entered Apprentice at Lyndon Lodge No. 960 on May 22, 1986, passed to the degree of Fellow Craft on July 24, 1986, and was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on September 25, 1986. He served as Master of Lyndon Lodge in 2013 and became a plural member of Louisville Lodge No. 400 in 2007 and Master of the Lodge in 2015. He also became a member of Sunset Lodge No. 915 in 2016, and Abraham Lodge No. 8 in 2022, where he served as Treasurer from 2023 until his death. He furthered his Masonic knowledge in both the York Rite and the Scottish Rite. In 1987 he became a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Louisville, where he received his 32nd degree in Masonry. Later, he was given the distinction of Knight Commander of the Court of Honor in 2015.
He also served as Wise Master of the Chapter of Rose Croix from 2021 to 2022 and was privileged to become a member of the Royal Order of Scotland. In the York Rite, he was the first Treasurer of Abraham Chapter No. 196, Royal Arch Masons, and Illustrious Master of Louisville Council No. 4, Royal and Select Masters, in 2012. Additionally, he was a member of Louisville- DeMolay Commandery No. 12, Knights Templar.
Lastly, Gary was a proud Shriner. He joined Kosair Shrine in 2001, later becoming Potentate in 2017 and serving as Treasurer from 2018 through his death. He was the Past President of the Shriners Treasurer Association, but most of all, he was deeply honored to serve on the Board of Governors for Shriners Children’s Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was a loyal and faithful brother and was a true Craftsman.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to the ICU staff at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. Their unwavering compassion, professionalism, and kindness not only provided Gary with the best possible care but also supported and comforted the family in their time of need. Their grace and dedication will never be forgotten.
