Savona Williams Edwards was born April 21, 1960, in Campbellsville, KY to the late Elmore and Margaret Dean Dobson Williams. She departed this life Monday, July 29, 2024, at her home in Green County, KY, having attained the age of age sixty-four years, three months and eight days.
Born Savona Williams, she dedicated over three decades to educating young minds in the Green County School System, where she taught Kindergarten and 5th grade Math. Savona was particularly passionate about integrating her faith into her teaching, often sharing her beliefs with her students.
After retiring, Savona continued to contribute to the education sector and remained a vibrant member of the Greensburg Baptist Church. Her involvement was extensive; she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, and was actively engaged in youth programs and meal preparations for various church events.
Educated at Summersville Elementary, Green County High School and Western Kentucky University, where she earned a 4 year golf scholarship. Savona’s commitment to education and helping others was evident throughout her life. She found joy in her hobbies, particularly in helping people, which resonated through her personal and professional life. She continued to help others after her death by donating her body to the University of Kentucky School of Medicine for research. Savona’s legacy as a devoted educator, faithful servant, and loving family member will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
Savona is survived by her husband: Richard Edwards, her son: Blake Edwards of Greensburg, KY, her sister and brother-in-law: Kay and Gerald Gupton of Richmond, KY, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service, under the direction of Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home, will be held 5 pm Central Time, Friday, August 2, 2024, at the Greensburg Baptist Church, where she was a devout member, with Bro. Blake Jessie and Bro. Mark Bonta officiating. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Central Time Friday, August 2, 2024, until the funeral hour. There will be no burial. Following her wishes, cremation will follow at a later date and her ashes will be scattered in the pond behind her home by her son, Blake Edwards.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be donations to “Greensburg Baptist Church Youth Interior Building” project. These can be made at the church or at Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home in Greensburg.
