Senate Majority Floor Leader Max Wise Appointed To Council Of State Governments Leadership Role

FRANKFORT, KY (Jan. 31, 2025)—Senate Majority Floor Leader Max Wise, R-Campbellsville, has been appointed by Senate President Robert Stivers, R-Manchester, to serve on the Executive Committee of The Council of State Governments Southern Office (CSG South).

As a member of the Executive Committee, Wise will work alongside legislative leaders from the 15 southern states to oversee CSG South’s governance, policy direction, and strategic planning. This appointment grants him access to research, legislative briefings, and expert resources provided by CSG South. He will be supported by Committee Chair Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter of Alabama and staff liaison Erin Marsh.

“I am honored to be appointed to the Executive Committee of CSG South, and am eager to take on a leadership position with this excellent organization,” said Wise. “Strong collaboration among southern states promotes innovation, strengthens economies, and positions us to best address our region’s challenges. I look forward to working alongside legislative leaders to guide policy discussions and advance initiatives benefiting Kentucky and the southern region.”

ABOUT THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The Executive Committee serves as the governing body of CSG South, overseeing its budget, operations, and programmatic initiatives. The committee is critical in guiding regional policy discussions, fostering intergovernmental cooperation, and ensuring CSG South remains a premier, nonpartisan legislative resource.

Executive committee members, including Wise, will

  • represent Kentucky and share policy priorities with legislative leaders from across the south,

  • participate in Executive Committee sessions and business meetings at the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC),

  • review and vote on the annual budget, operational concerns, and programmatic updates for CSG South,

  • engage in discussions on policy positions and leadership roles within the organization,

  • provide input on legislative briefings, webinars, and delegation programs hosted by CSG South, and

  • promote CSG South’s initiatives and resources to Kentucky lawmakers and government officials.

Wise will serve a two-year term ending Dec. 31, 2026.

The 2025 Southern Legislative Conference will be in Birmingham, Alabama, on July 19-23. It will provide a platform for policymakers to engage in policy discussions, embrace America’s laboratories for democracy model, and explore innovative solutions for the southern region.
