FRANKFORT, KY (Dec. 12, 2024)—Sen. Max Wise, R-Campbellsville, has announced his committee assignments for the 2025 Legislative Session. His colleagues recently elected him as the new Senate majority floor leader.
In light of his new role as Senate majority floor leader, Wise will no longer chair any Senate standing committees, a customary change for Senate Leadership members. Wise will remain a member of the Senate Economic Development, Tourism and Labor Committee, Senate Education Committee, and Senate Families and Children Committee. As part of Senate Leadership, he will serve on the Legislative Research Commission, Rules Committee, and Committee on Committees.
Wise’s extensive experience includes chairing the Senate Education Committee and the Senate Economic Development, Tourism, and Labor Committee. His leadership in these roles has prepared him well for this prominent position within Senate leadership.
“Max has been an invaluable member of the Senate Majority Caucus, and his chairmanship of the Education and Economic Development Committees has played a big part in shaping policy that benefits all Kentuckians,” Senate President Robert Stivers, R-Manchester, said. “His experience makes him exceptionally suited for the demands of Senate majority floor leader. We’re excited to have him join leadership and know he will continue serving Kentucky well.”
Wise has a distinguished legislative record of championing initiatives that address critical needs across the commonwealth. He was instrumental in developing Kentucky’s model school safety framework and spearheaded reforms to pharmacy benefit managers. In 2022, he was pivotal in advancing Senate priorities, including SB 1 (Name, Image, and Likeness) and SB 6 (Teaching American Principles Act).
“I am deeply honored to have the trust of my colleagues in taking on the role of Senate majority floor leader,” Wise said. “This position will not change who I am or my focus on Kentucky values, conservative principles, and the priorities that matter most to the people of my district and our state. I am committed to ensuring the Senate continues to champion meaningful legislation and the blueprint that has helped keep Kentucky on the upward economic trajectory we’ve been on since Republicans gained supermajority control of both legislative chambers in 2016.”
During the 2024 Interim, Wise co-chaired the Workforce Attraction and Retention Task Force, which examined Kentucky’s workforce participation challenges. The task force’s findings and recommendations, submitted to the Legislative Research Commission, propose solutions to address barriers such as child care, transportation, and licensing requirements while enhancing apprenticeship programs and marketing Kentucky as a premier destination for families and businesses. These recommendations could influence discussions during the 2025 Legislative Session.
The 2025 Legislative Session begins Tuesday, January 7.
